Our Knowledge Bank aims to bring together the clearest and most concise information currently available on seaweed and its various land applications in one place. Of course, this will be a gradual process, but over time we hope that through a combination of our own articles and links to other useful destinations we will create a really valuable and much-needed online resource.
Seaweed: General Information
For a general introduction to seaweed and its various applications we feel there is no better place to start than the three articles Sea-Chem had published in Pitchcare magazine at the end of 2010. The Wracks Progress! explores the diversity of applications that seaweed has; whilst What's it all about? Algae! discusses the ways in which these plants are now being harvested, with a particular focus on sustainability. The final article - Food for Thought! - offers a more lighthearted survey of seaweed's historic applications, some of which might come as a surprise!
Elsewhere on the net, The Seaweed Site and The Seaweed Industry Association offer the best collections of articles and links on the topic. The BBC also offers some basic biological information about the varieties and structures of seaweeds and marine algaes, which is worth reading as an introduction.

Private growers may also consult the Royal Horticultural Society for more information and resources on seaweed products for the garden.
